About The Emps
You don’t have to guess what your child is feeling anymore. With The Emps you can name it, talk about it, understand it and walk through it together.
What are The Emps?
The Emps have been created by Dr Nat, an educational psychologist with over 20 years of experience in education.
Emotions aren’t problems to fix… they are signals to understand. Big emotions aren’t bad. They’re a sign your child is still learning how to be in the world.
The Emps give every emotion a name, a face and a voice so children can finally talk about what they feel. Instead of vague emojis, colours or charts we have a full cast of characters not just happy, sad, angry and frightened. Because we believe that mental health and wellbeing is grounded in understanding ALL emotions.
The Emps is not about undertaking a short course or work book to become a ‘better parent’, The Emps is a continuing journey, with engaging characters, that gives you and your children lifelong skills to understand and navigate our wonderful world of emotions to support future mental health.
The Emps are aimed at all children, all parents and carers and all educators. In fact The Emps are aimed at everyone who has ever felt an emotion… and not entirely understood why.
Emping
Emping is what we call the art of noticing, feeling and staying with emotions, especially your own. It’s empathy turned inward first, then outward.
It’s feeling, not fixing.
It’s staying soft, even when things feel big.
It’s how we help our children and ourselves build emotional safety from the inside out.
It helps our parents realise they are allowed to have emotions too.
It gives children permission to feel without judgement
Why did we create The Emps?
We are on a mission to increase the emotional awareness and wellbeing of every child to protect their future mental health. We are passionate about upskilling parents, carers and educators so they can enhance their own understanding of emotions and support the emotional development of children.
Emotions aren’t problems to fix… they are signals to understand. Big emotions aren’t bad. They’re a sign your child is still learning how to be in the world.
The Emps help us meet our emotions with compassion and understanding, not punishment.

The Emps are the gift we give to not just our children, but our own inner child
We believe that emotions don’t need to be ‘fixed’ but felt. The unique focus of the Emps is on “meeting the emotion” in a fun engaging and playful way so that children feel safe enough to share and adults feel confident enough to connect.
Emps give every emotion a name, a face and a voice so children can finally talk about what they feel. Instead of vague emojis, colours or charts we have a full cast of characters not just happy, sad, angry and frightened. Because we believe that mental health and wellbeing is grounded in understanding ALL emotions.

What The Emps do for us and you
The Difference
The Emps is not designed to be a ‘28 day challenge’ or a two week course to make you a ‘better parent’. The Emps are about helping you and your child understand your emotions and engage on life long discovery about why we feel what we do with simple tips to help navigate them. We hope that it supports the mental health development of every child and that as the next generation matures, we can encourage a better understanding of what makes us, well… us.
Will you and your child still exchange cross words with each other after using our resource…?
Yes! Because you and your child are both human beings, and human beings sometimes react like that. No-one is that ‘perfect’ parent we see on social media. And we don’t have to be, we just have to be there for our children.
The Emps give you the tools to have conversations about emotions, they allow you to name them, use the characters to externalise the emotion and to understand how and why your child is feeling that way. They also give tips and resources to help you understand emotions better so that you can support your children and yourself when it shows up.
Come and join us on our adventure with The Emps through our wonderful world of emotions!
Happy Emping!
