It is also where The Emp Collection comes in… The Full Collection has been designed by an Educational Psychologist to work together or to be used on their own separately. You choose.

Each Emp arrives complete with its own complementary fact card showing its associated body signals and simple steps to try when an emotion gets big.
The Emotion Cards you use together: A simple, but engaging way to explore emotions. What an emotion does in the body, and what might help, with a QR code on every card opening into a whole library of facts and strategies. Bright, colorful, pocket sized, kids love them. You’ll reach for them time and time again.

Children often don’t say "I feel anxious." What they say is that their tummy feels funny, or they don't want to go, or sometimes nothing at all. The Emps Emotion Cards give them visuals to help describe how they feel and strategies to try.

If you are a parent or carer these cards are brilliant for supporting emotional development at home. They are a fun and engaging way to support children to talk about and develop their understanding of emotions. Use them for bedtime chats, the after-school decompress, when big emotions show up or when needed. They fit easily in any bag and can be taken anywhere!
Every card has two sides.
On the front, the Emp and why they might visit. "Fraggle visits when worries and 'What ifs' keep coming, even when we try to make them stop." Children recognise themselves in the statements immediately.
On the back, two things:
Recognise and Reassure : the body signals for that feeling, in a child's own words. "My tummy feels fluttery. My head feels spinny. Fraggle is visiting." Naming what's happening in the body is where regulation starts.
Disarming Steps for the tricky emotions: small, doable strategies like Butterfly Breathing or Five Colour Find. And for the gentler emotions, Treasure Tips: ways to notice joy and excitement and hold onto them. Because emotional literacy isn't only about managing the trickier emotions.

Every beautifully crocheted Emp is made by hand by Katie at Squiggle and Bean, using her own original patterns. Each one is CE tested and safe from newborn, so they're made to be loved rather than kept on a shelf. They have the added benefit of being very sensory appealing to little hands too!

These are sold by Squiggle and Bean. But we are delighted to be able to offer them here on Katie's behalf, and we handle the ordering and the postage so you only need to talk to one person.
Each Emp is currently priced at £30.
How to order:
Because each Emp is crocheted to order, there's no buy-now button and we don't want to take your money before Katie has confirmed she can make it.
Just get in touch and tell us which Emp or Emps you'd like. We'll come back to you with your lead time and an invoice for payment.
The usual lead time is around four weeks from confirmed order to completion, but we'll give you a proper estimate once Katie has seen your order.
Ordering for a class or a setting?
